My goodness guys have you ever found yourself in this situation where you always wished for something, it finally arrives at you just when it is getting to you, everything around it feels like it will not happen? That is me and Aeroplanes. The first time I remember growing this idea was when my dad told me of his work experiences from Moyale to Nairobi. Those stories were how he motivated me to work hard. It was like if I passsed then I could always take flights as I wish on the command of my word. I discovered it is more complex than that.
Well so the first time I got an opportunity to climb an aeroplane was when I was working for an NGO. Meetings had run so late that I was already rushing to board. On checking in I realise I do not have my ID and we couldn’t find it. So my boss who by this time was not very amused took me to the police station to get an abstract. They actually wait for me as I am brought back with my boss. I get in and everyone was seated waiting to take off. I go to the last seats behind where there was space for me .
I sit and wonder that I can’t look through the window as I thought. The man seated besides looks at me I guess wondering what with the girl. So I tell this man besides me that is my first time to be on a plane and please not mind me.” He offers the window seat to me.
It was the most amazing thing to experience. Seeing the world from above, the river as it curved like a snake. Then came the moments of rising above the clouds. Looking below and it looked like what the skies look from below. I freaked. I freaked so bad I almost eased my bladder.
I overcame my fear and when I landed the first person I called was my dad who I had to report my wins to.
But the miracle to get to that flight that day and the difference it would have made for me just stays with me. It teaches me patience with life and learning to accept the things we cannot change.
